Permanent employee in India, can I work in UK on contract?

I am skilled worker in India as a permanent employee (Software Engineer). I had resigned from the company & I am to serve the notice period until 21st July'11. Also, My employer is ready to grant me Leave Without pay (LWP) for 6 months to an year, till I come back to India.So will that be possible for me to work in UK, till I am there as a dependent, though I will be on LWP
