The argument of superiority?

Does arguing that one gender or race is superior to the other even makes any sense? I often see it used by men and women as a way to take personal merits due to things they haven't themselves accomplished, or to justify hateful actions. But does it serve any purpose to discuss who's better? It seems to me those who really achieved a lot didn't care for it.
